The season

Wilsonville opened 2022 with a 38-35 overtime win at Thurston and a 49-39 win over Westview, then lost 44-7 to 6A Tualatin and 33-21 at Summit. The Wildcats did not lose again in the regular season. They won all three Special District 1 games, allowing 14 points in total, and beat previously unbeaten Putnam 42-14 for the Northwest Oregon Conference title.

Seeded second, Wilsonville beat North Eugene 51-7 and Silverton 39-26. A wave of illness kept 12 players out of the semifinal against No. 3 Bend at Barlow High School, played in cold, gusty wind, but the Wildcats broke a 14-14 tie in the fourth quarter and won 23-14.

The final at Hillsboro Stadium was a rematch with top-seeded Summit. Wilsonville led 13-0 early and tied the game 21-21 in the third quarter, but Summit won 35-28, and the Wildcats finished 10-3. Cooper Hiday caught three touchdown passes in the final and made the 5A all-state first team at receiver and defensive back.
